Surrender to the small town charm of Sparta!
Located at the crosswroads of the county's two main corridors, US 21 and NC 18, Sparta is the physical center as well as the focus of community life for Alleghany County. Like many southern towns, the Courthouse is the center of town. The old centeral business district recalls the charm of the town's early history. With a variety of motels, bed and breakfast inns and vacation rental properties in and around Sparta, NC and the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop, the area offers the traveler a welcome respite from hectic pace of modern like. The town also features one of the most complete public parks for a community of its' size. Crouse Park, located just two blocks north of the Courthouse offers extensive play equipment for youngsters, covered picnic pavillions, a performance stage, basketball and volleyball courts, a walking loop and a skateboard park. While in town, be sure to stop by the Chamber of Commerce and Visitors' Center at 58 South Main Street. NC Wine Country

Nestled in the Valley below High Meadows Country Club is the Yadkin Valley and Swan Creek regions that are home to two dozen commercial wine producers.The wineries are small with intimate tasting rooms providing more access to winemakers and owners.This offers a great chance to try new wines and learn about the winemaking process.From a downtown storefront to a farm surrounded by llamas, these are as diverse as the people who tend them. Most are producing award winning vintages and gaining recognition nationally.  

Stone Mountain State Park

Blue Ridge Parkway

Only 3.7 miles from High Meadows Country Club is the 469 mile historic Blue Ridge parkway.The parkway spands along the ridges of the Appalachian Mountains and connects the Shendoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smokey Mountains in North Carolina.

Watch the fascinating process of cheese making from the viewing area and visit our cheese & gift shop.Selling over 20 varieties of original Ashe Country Cheese as well as their own county butter, homemade fudge, and everyone's favorite fresh cheese curd.Also offering other fine cheeses, locally made wines and a variety of gifts, souvenirs and old fashioned snacks as well as candies. Experience Elkin !

Only minutes from High Meadows is the town of Elkin, NC. Elkin was recently honored as the 2013 "Great Place in the Making", for the historical downtown's new designation of Trail Town and it's bustling hub of entertainment venues, along with the resurgence of businesses and potential heritage trails cnter in the Main Street district. Enjoy the quaint historical downtown situated along the Yadkin River with shopping and restaurants. Elkin's municipal park has a community center with 8 tennis courts, a pool, walking trails, children playground, a softballl field and basketball courts.
