Meet Angela Peros: Bar Manager

Everyone longs for the familiarity of a bar like the one depicted in Cheers, that beloved ’80s sitcom where “everybody knows your name.” For the members of High Meadows Golf & Country Club, that dream becomes a reality each time you walk into the bar, thanks in a large part to our talented, friendly bar manager, Angela Peros. Her welcoming smile automatically makes you feel right at home, and many times she knows guests so well she has their drink ready and waiting.

A Beach Girl at Home in the Mountains

Angela came to live in Roaring Gap 11 years ago, when she and her husband moved up from Morehead City to help out her in-laws, who had just purchased Nikola’s Restaurant and High Meadows Inn. “We moved up here with the intention of working with my husband’s parents about a year and going back, but we ended up staying,” Angela says. “We just fell in love with the area, and knew it would be a great place to raise our kids.” Working as High Meadows’ bar manager gives Angela enough flexibility to enjoy hiking and making the most of living in this beautiful part of the Blue Ridge with her three-year-old and thirteen-year-old.

At Work at High Meadows

Angela brings to High Meadows a wealth of experience in the restaurant industry, which is evident by how well she keeps things running on a daily basis. As bar manager, she not only takes care of customers at the bar, but she also manages the wait staff, places orders and meets with vendors to keep the wine and spirits list. “I’m currently in the process of revamping our wine list,” Angela says. “I’m always excited to try new things, and this year we’re looking forward to introducing some new local offering sangria to our members this.”

While Angela reports that High Meadows’ members tend to prefer wine, there are plenty of opportunities for her to share her talents with mixed drinks, including her signature Blackberry Hummingbird. This drink is a modified version of a Long Island Iced Tea, with five different liquors mixed with a blackberry Monin syrup. “It’s a fun, fruity drink,” Angela says.

High Meadows Golf & Country Club has had the pleasure of Angela’s talents behind the bar for nine years, and we’re looking forward to many more to come. “I love my job here, and it’s the members that make me look forward to coming to work every day,” Angela says.
